There’s a strange comfort in pit lane. Helmet on, the car is idling and your heart rate is up. You’re technically at the track and you’ve made the effort and you definitely look the part. But you’re not actually driving. And here’s the uncomfortable truth: A lot of people live their lives in pit lane.
Pit lane feels productive. You’re checking tyre pressures, watching other cars fly past as you chat about lap times, adjust a few settings and give some thought to the next session But the only place you improve….is out there. On track. Where it’s loud, fast, where you make mistakes and where you commit.
On a track day, there are two kinds of drivers: Those who spend half the session “just warming up” and those who commit to the lap. The second group don’t wait for perfect conditions or an empty track or to feel 100% ready. They just go and every lap teaches them a little something.
So I ask, are track days are just condensed life lessons. A space where you don’t get better watching from pit lane, you don’t build confidence thinking about the throttle and you don’t test the car by talking about it. At some point, you roll out or you don’t.
March 14 is another green light. You can stay in pit lane, or you can drive. We can’t drive it for you, we can only build it and the rest is up to you. See you on track.
